And Now What to do about Work

The kids are in school and we have finally unpacked and as much I am loving taking care of my beautiful new baby, I feel like I need to get a job. I’ve had a job since I was 14 years old. I took a year off during my junior year of college to concentrate on school, but other than that, I’ve always worked. My background is in IT Project Management and legal technology. There aren’t a lot of jobs around here that require those skills. If times got really tough, I could try to find a job in Tallahassee, but including the boat ride, that would be about a 2 hour commute each way and paying for daycare would probably make it not worth it. I would love to volunteer. I know there are plenty of volunteers needed throughout the county at the school, the library, the humane society, but while I’m not working, we can’t afford to pay for daycare right now.
Starting our own business seems like the best option. I’ve never been very entrepreneurial, but Tim has. He owned a gym for several years. We are both very active people and love to inspire people to live a healthy active lifestyle. We could open a gym, but there doesn’t seem to be much of a market for it around here. Most people around here get their exercise outside by working and playing hard.
I’ve always been pretty decent at writing and I like writing so writing a book seems like a good idea. The problem is, I’m not sure what to write about. I started reading a lot of self-help books about finding your passion and books about writing. I can’t say that I was inspired by anything I read. When we tell people about out lifestyle, they say wow, you should write a book. At the same time, Tim decided to get his captain’s license and share his passion for fishing with everyone he could. It made sense to combine the blog with the fishing charter business since it all coincides with our lifestyle. On top of the blog, I can help with the website creation for our fishing charter business. It’s been challenging finding time for writing and working on the website with a 7 month old. It seems like every time I get on the computer, she starts crying because she’s hungry or just because I’m not paying enough attention to her. I am sure I will get the hang of it. My goal is to write two posts a week. Right now, I’ve only been accomplishing one.
